What do Christians believe about the meaning and purpose of life?

Christians believe that every person was created by God and is known and loved by him. Human life therefore has value and purpose that do not depend on success, wealth, ability or the approval of other people.

They believe that our deepest purpose is to know and love God, and to love other people. This includes living with compassion, forgiveness, honesty and justice, and using our lives and abilities for the good of others.

Christians believe that sin draws people away from God and distorts the way we understand ourselves and live with one another. It can lead us to pursue things that cannot give us the meaning and fulfilment for which we were created.

They believe that Jesus restores our relationship with God and shows us what a fully human life looks like. His life was shaped by love for God, service to others, courage, truth and self-giving love.

Christians believe that the Holy Spirit helps people grow more like Jesus and discover how their own lives can serve God’s purposes. They also believe that our purpose reaches beyond this life into resurrection and eternal life with God.

This means that your worth is not decided by what you achieve or how the outside world measures success. Christians believe that you are loved by God and created for a life of relationship, love, growth and service.

Through Jesus, you can know God, discover a better direction for your life and become more fully the person he created you to be, with the hope of sharing eternal life with him.
