What do Christians believe about the spiritual world?
Christians believe that physical reality is not the whole of reality. They believe that God created everything that exists, both the world we can see and a spiritual world that cannot normally be seen.
They believe that human beings are both physical and spiritual. Our bodies are an important part of who we are, but our lives also include consciousness, moral awareness and the ability to know and respond to God.
Christians believe that the spiritual world includes angels, who serve God, and spiritual evil, which opposes him and harms human life. They believe that Jesus has overcome the power of evil and that people can turn to him for forgiveness, freedom and protection.
They also believe that the Holy Spirit is God present and active in the world and within those who follow Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps people recognise God, grow in faith and gradually become more like Christ.
Christians believe that death is not the end. Jesus rose from the dead, and they believe that those who belong to him remain in God’s care after death and will ultimately be raised to eternal life with him.
This means that Christians understand your life as more than a brief physical existence. They believe that you were created by God, can know him personally and are invited into a life shaped by his love.
Through Jesus, Christians believe that you can receive forgiveness, welcome the Holy Spirit into your life and have the hope of resurrection and eternal life with God.
